The house is located in the Morvan Regional and Natural Park, one of France's best-kept secrets, less than three hours from Paris, and just over two hours from Lyon. At its heart, you will find Strawberry Hill, offering a place where you can relax in privacy, comfort and security, surrounded by 6000 m2 of private lawns and forest, with a private swimming pool, and modern fitness facilities in addition to the modern facilities in the house.

In the heart of the beautiful Morvan Natural Park, the concept of this bed and breakfast is to offer you the possibility of staying in a spacious and comfortable old house just like one your grandmother might have lived in - with high ceilings, beautiful plaster moldings, beautiful parquet floors, magnificent old wood stoves and period furniture (check out the pictures!). This house has a lived-in feel; it is filled with books (mostly in English, but also in French) and lovely paintings and antiques. It really feels like you're in Grandma's house ("la maison de Mamie").

Internal accommodation

There are two bedrooms on the 1st floor (2nd for you Americans), both with double beds. There is also a beautiful and stylish modern bathroom with an integrated toilet, which is shared.

On the second floor, you will find another room with two single beds.

The ground floor includes a living room, a dining room, as well as the kitchen equipped with a beautiful LaCanche stove and marble counters. The ground floor is surrounded on three sides by a spacious terrace and during the season there are tables and chairs for outdoor dining, if you prefer.

The immediate surroundings

The house is built on a hill, on the lower part of a large plot of land that includes forests and lawns. Everything is perfectly private so there is plenty of room for children to roam safely and the heated pool will provide hours of fun for both children and adults.

The property is located on the edge of the village of Chissey-en-Morvan, which is one of the few small villages in the region to have a small grocery store with a charming café. The store is not large, but it has a nice selection of fresh fruits and vegetables and an assortment of necessities, from wine to deodorant.

Chissey-en-Morvan is halfway between two bustling historic towns - Saulieu to the north and Autun to the south, both a twenty-minute drive away. Autun is larger and houses most of the major supermarket chains. The single major supermarket in Saulieu is a B1 (owned by the Auchan group) and you will find everything you need there.

Finally, it is always helpful to know what to expect.

You can expect to have a great time in a charming, private and gracious old house that is beautiful, clean and fully functional (from plenty of hot water to high-speed internet to a very well-equipped kitchen and well-kept grounds). What you shouldn't expect is a sterile, Ikea-furnished lodge, nor should you expect perfection. There will be a little (a tiny bit!) of scuffed paint, and some scratches in the floors. If that sort of thing doesn't bother you, then you're in for a dream vacation in the heart of France.

Access for travelers

This is a private rural villa with parking for 2 to 3 cars. The village center is a few minutes walk down the hill. You are a short half-hour drive from the most beautiful lake in the Morvan, Lac des Settons, and only 20 minutes from the historic town of Autun to the south and the village of Saulieu (home of the famous Côte d'Or restaurant created by Bernard Loiseau) to the north.

If you would like to use the weight-training station, adults will need to sign a legal release form and accept responsibility for any use by children.
